Leeds brewery's fury at rammed supermarkets as they're forced to stay closed

A Leeds brewery boss has slammed the lack of social distancing at a supermarket as they are still forced to remain closed.

The member of staff at Kirkstall Brewery fumed this evening in a tweet at just after 5pm: "Anyone got @BorisJohnson's number?

"Just queued to get into a rammed supermarket (selling alcohol) with absolutely no controlled distancing, not even pretending.

"We spent thousands on additional safety measures but our pubs remain shut. Obscene."

Bosses at breweries and pubs are feeling particularly aggrieved at the moment given the length of the lockdown.

And there was more bad news yesterday (Fri) that as many as 87 million pints of beer will be thrown away as a result of pub closures during Covid lockdowns around the UK.

The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) called the waste - equivalent to £331m in sales - "heartbreaking".

In response to the tweet one man wrote: "I felt safer in the pubs than I do in supermarkets. It's been like a free-for-all recently.

" Compare that to when we went to Kirkstall Bridge a few months back which was very well-controlled but still kind of felt normal."
