Leeds Bradford Airport to cut more than 100 jobs after struggles operating in 'extraordinary circumstances'

More than 100 workers at Leeds Bradford Airport are at risk of losing their jobs as business confirms job consultations have begun.

The airport in Yeadon today (Tuesday) said they have begun consultation with colleagues in permanent positions due to the coronavirus crisis.

A spokesperson confirmed to LeedsLive that they are consulting with 158 colleagues with a view to making 107 roles redundant and that this decision is about safeguarding the business to survive the short-term crisis.

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) added they have done their best to look after their teams and avoided taking action for as long as they could.

They added that they believe the aviation industry will recover in the long-term, we are operating in extraordinary circumstances as a result of Covid-19, and we have had to make some difficult decisions.

A spokesperson for LBA said: “We are deeply saddened to be consulting with a number of colleagues due to the impact of the global pandemic.

"Like most businesses, we are operating in extraordinary circumstances and this has led to some difficult decisions.

"The long-term prognosis for aviation is very different to the short-term constraints our business faces and we regrettably must act to safeguard the business.”
