Leeds Bradford Airport evacuated due to fire alarm

Leeds Bradford Airport has been evacuated due to a fire alarm leaving buses unable to get to the terminals.

Metro Travel tweeted just after 6pm to state buses were delayed due to the incident.

An update from the firm at 7pm said that it can no longer send the Flying Tiger services 737 747 & 757 to the airport.

It is directing those wishing to travel to get off at Whitehouse Lane.

There has been no official word on the status of any of the departures from the airport but Karen Thorpe on Twitter said: "Waiting to take off from Southampton back to Leeds."

A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said: “At around 19:15 this evening a fire alarm was triggered in our departure lounge. West Yorkshire fire service conducted both a fire safety and security sweep. The building has been declared safe, though the source is still being determined.

“This process lasted around an hour, which delayed some of our passengers. We successfully processed everyone back through security in about 25 minutes. We would like to thank the fire service for their swift response and our passengers for their patience and understanding. Maintenance teams are on site undertaking further investigations.“
