Leeds bars to build roof over Merrion Street for five week street party

A collection of bars and restaurants on Merrion Street in Leeds city centre are set to create the city's biggest outdoor venue.

Mojo, Verve, Yard and Coop, Mean Eyed Cat Bar, Roxy Ball Room, Manahatta, Liv Bar and Zaap Thai Street Food have joined forces to install a huge canopy over the pedestrianised street.

It will be in place for at least a month - from April 12, when bars are allowed to open for people drinking outdoors, to May 17, when indoor drinking at pubs and bars could be first allowed.

As a venue, it will closely resemble that layout for the popular Merrion Street Festival, last held in 2019 except, with tables and chairs filling Marrion Street.

A description on the Merrion Street website reads: "The bars and restaurants of Merrion Street have joined forces to install a roof the full length of the street to create the city's largest outdoor area for hospitality.
