Leeds bar says it will not implement 'ridiculous rules' in angry rant at Boris Johnson

A Leeds bar has assured customers it 'will not change' after the Prime Minister announced new restrictions to deal with rising Covid cases.

Distrikt Bar Leeds announced it would not require Covid passports - as it is a bar and not a nightclub.

Under the new restrictions announced today - Covid passes are required to visit nightclubs, but not for pubs and restaurants.

Distrikt Bar Leeds posted on Facebook: "To those concerned about the ‘news’, please bear in mind that Distrikt is a bar and not a nightclub.

"We are a smaller venue and therefore will not require any passports, nor will we implement any new ridiculous rules that cause anything other than disruption.

"All of our bookings will go ahead, life will not change. Boris is a *****."

The new measures are currently set to be implemented from Wednesday, December 15.

At the time of writing, the post had received nearly 8,000 reactions, with many commenters supporting the message.

Distrikt's co-owner previously told LeedsLive in July that she believed Covid passes were "pointless".

At the time, she said: ""Hospitality has been scrutinised since day one, despite evidence and everything else suggesting otherwise.

"I go to a local gym where the music is loud, I’m surrounded by people sweating, breathing heavy and no one wears a mask. At times it feels so busy, I’m surprised by how easily it’s ignored.

"How is that any different to going our for drinks and having a dance? It isn’t. How is going to a busy supermarket any different? It isn't."

She added: "To enforce yet another rule on already struggling industry would not only mean financial struggles; paying extra for door staff to check passports isn’t cheap, but also takes away from the fun. It’s unnecessary & pointless.

"Another scapegoat that will no doubt prove worthless in a few months."
