Leeds bank evacuated after someone forgot their rucksack

A Leeds city centre bank was evacuated and cordoned off by police because a man forgot his rucksack.

Someone phoned West Yorkshire Police at around 10am on Monday, May 20 after the unattended bag was spotted in the Yorkshire Bank branch in Briggate.

Staff and customers were evacuated from the branch and police cordoned it off while they inspected the bag.

A spokesman for the force said: "The bag was examined by officers and found to be safe.

"Its owner returned to the scene a short time later."

Yorkshire Bank caused controversy earlier this month when it announced plans to close six branches, including one in Bramley.
