Leeann Dempster rubbishes Hearts rumours as Hibs chief insists reiterates Easter Road commitment

Leeann Dempster has dismissed a story linking her with a cross-capital switch to Hearts as “daft”.

And the Hibs chief
executive reckons Jambos counterpart Ann Budge would have been laughing at the very notion too.

A newspaper report declared Hibs’ supremo is a contender for the same role at Tynecastle.

But Dempster said: “I am sure they are as bemused as I am about where that came from.”

Record Sport understands Hearts are seeking to appoint a CEO but that Dempster isn’t a target.

The hiring of a sporting director to work with new boss Robbie Neilson and a legal battle with the SPFL over relegation to the Championship are taking priority as far as the Jambos are concerned.

Dempster has been in her post at Easter Road for just over six years now, having held the same position at Motherwell.

And she has insisted crossing the capital divide is a non-starter.

She said: “The internet can often run away with itself and there is nothing in that from them, I’m sure, or from me.

“It was just one of those daft stories. That is the void we are in at the moment and people fill the void.”

Dempster also moved to quash rumours of a rift between herself and owner Ron Gordon.

The Hibs chief, who has sporting director Graeme Mathie working alongside her, is convinced the American has no regrets over buying the club last summer in light of the Covid-19 crisis.

She added: “As far as I’m concerned – and I can hopefully speak for him
as well – him and I are
fine. There is no distance between us and we are moving in the same direction. In fact, we
are working so closely together that we speak a couple of times a day.

“Between the two of us – and Graeme and a few others – we are effectively taking the full weight of the club on our shoulders.

“Folk will say whatever they want but there is no issue for me. Ron has expressed to me that he has no regrets about getting involved with the club. He is still as excited as ever. He knows we need to make priorities but he is by no means regretful about getting into football or Hibs, albeit at one of the most difficult times you could imagine.”
