Leeann Dempster compares Hibs challenge to Queen's Park project as she makes 'chaos' admission

Leann Dempster has compared the challenge she faces at Queen’s Park to the one she faced at Hibs.

And the former Easter Road chief admits she likes ‘chaos’ when going into a club.

Dempster spent six years in Leith, during which time the Hibees finally broke their 114-year-old Scottish Cup hodoo and returned to the Scottish Premiership after suffering relegation.

She left the club this year after Queen’s Park confirmed Dempster would be taking over the same role at the Hampden club.

With a focus on growing the fan base and community engagement, Dempster realises it’s a contrasting brief to the one she faced at hibs and at previous club Motherwell.

She told BBC Scotland: “None of the professional aspects exist. Within Motherwell and Hibs, they had that. It just needed to change.

“Whereas here they don’t exist, so that;s the exciting part. That’s the challenging part for supporters and members and those who are more widely interested. That change of pace, change of priorities and that kind of reaching out.

“I love this building job. That’s the stuff I like. When things become...I don’t mean easier or organised...but I do like a bit of chaos.

“It’ll be a bit like Motherwell for me because when I went there, it being a smaller supporter base, you got to know people really well. You get to know their stories.

“I did at Hibs too but of course we had 15,000 in a stadium there as opposed to a couple of thousand and we need to grow that figure here.

“So I’m dead excited actually. That was a big pull for me coming back. Folk will say ‘there she's off on community again’ and all that, but I firmly believe that if you don’t get the community side of that right, the club doesn’t thrive. And it has to.”
