Tributes have been paid to Stay Humble, a horse part-owned by golfer Lee Westwood.
The eight-year-old fell in the closing stages of the bet365 Edinburgh National Handicap Chase at Musselburgh, won by Mighty Thunder (14-1).
In the long-distance event on ITV4, Stay Humble was in second place under Brian Hughes when he came down at the penultimate fence.
Dave Armstrong, who owned the stayer with Westwood, tweeted: "Absolutely devastating to lose Stay humble today, a kind gentleman of a horse you could only wish to own, running an absolute blinder of a race also, my heart goes out to David & Pauline who cared and loved him, Rip mate. This game tames lions @WestwoodLee."
Stay Humble was trained by Pauline Robson and had won two races under rules, as well as a point-to-point.
Racing fans sent their condolences to connections on social media.
One said: "Heartbreaking. So genuine and brave."
Another added: "Devastating to hear Stay Humble didn't make it."
A third commented: "Terrible news. RIP Stay Humble."
Before the tragic race, Westwood and Armstrong saw another of their horses, Voix Du Reve, finish second at the Scottish track.
They also jointly own Cheltenham Gold Cup entrant Yorkhill.
