Lee Wallace wanted by Dundee United as Rangers star's exit nears

Dundee United are keen to land Rangers left-back Lee Wallace on a free transfer.

Arabs boss Robbie Neilson knows Wallace – who is out of contract at the end of the season and set to leave Ibrox
– having played alongside him at Tynecastle.

But Wallace is unlikely to be short of options. A return to first club Hearts has been the subject of speculation in recent seasons.

And the 31-year-old has also been linked with a number of sides in the English Championship.

But United know their hand would be strengthened if they could get through the play-offs and back up to the Premiership.

Former Ibrox captain Wallace was given a standing ovation from the Gers fans as he made a rare cameo appearance on Sunday, coming off the bench against Aberdeen.

The full-back remained loyal to Rangers when they went down to the bottom tier and helped them back up through the divisions.

However Wallace was then suspended, along with Kenny Miller, following an alleged dressing-room bust-up under boss Graeme Murty.

Wallace has been on the fringes since gaffer Steven Gerrard came in and will be looking to get his career back up and running.
