Lee Sharpe backs current Manchester United star to become one of the greats

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe believes Bruno Fernandes could become an Old Trafford great if he continues his level of performance since joining the club.

Fernandes started the season with a hat-trick in the opening game of the Premier League campaign against Leeds United to take his tally to 48 goal involvements since joining the club in January 2020, more than anyone else.

After becoming a Man United fan favourite since signing from Sporting Lisbon in a £56.7m deal, Sharpe feels that the 26-year-old can push on and go down in history among the fans as a true great because of his quality in the final third.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Sharpe said; "Going forward, his passing ability and his awareness and his finishing is world class.

"That has to be part of the manager's tactics, to play higher up the pitch and get people like him on the ball and give him the chance to score because he's a fantastic finisher.

"We get the best out of Bruno Fernandes in the final third, so let's get him into the final third and let's give him the ball as much as we can in that area, then there's no reason why he shouldn't be up there with the greats."

Fernandes couldn't help the Reds to prevent a draw against Southampton but will be hoping to return to the scoresheet when United take on Wolves in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday at Molineux Stadium.
