A man accused of stabbing a father to death on a train has denied murder.

Darren Pencille, 36, denies stabbing Lee Pomeroy on a Guildford to London Waterloo South Western Railway service on January 4.

Mr Pomeroy, 51, was knifed nine times on the train near Horsley, Surrey.

A post-mortem examination found he died from multiple stab wounds including an injury to his neck.

Pencille has been charged with his murder and possessing a knife. His partner, mother-of-one Chelsea Mitchell, 27, is accused of assisting an offender.

She is accused of transporting Pencille back to her home in Farnham after the murder and buying clippers and razors for him to change his appearance.

She is also alleged to have made internet inquiries about CCTV in relation to the murder.

The couple denied the charges against them when they appeared at the Old Bailey before Mr Justice Edis on Thursday.

Pencille appeared via video link from Belmarsh prison while Mitchell, who is on conditional bail, sat in the dock.

Mr Justice Edis transferred the case from Guildford Crown Court to the Old Bailey and set a trial to start on June 24. It is expected to last 10 days.
