Robbie Neilson has finally reunited with his former assistants after Hearts confirmed the appointments of Lee McCulloch and Gordon Forest.
Record Sport exclusively revealed last month that McCulloch had left Dundee United shortly after Micky Mellon replaced Neilson as manager, and was expected to make the move to Tynecastle.
After a short holiday and discussions with the capital club, the former Motherwelll, Wigan, Rangers and Kilmarnock man has been added to Neilson’s backroom staff.
He’s also been joined by former United coach Gordon Forrest, both taking up fist team assistant roles on contracts until 2023.
McCulloch won ten trophies in eight years at Ibrox before a move to Kilmarnock eventually saw him take up a player/coach role.
He had a short spell as Killie boss after his interim period in the job persuaded the club’s board to appoint him on a full-time basis.
But a failure to win any of their first eight league matches of the 2017/18 season saw him sacked on October 1 that year.
After a brief time as assistant boss of Polish outfit Legia Gdansk, McCulloch returned to Scotland and joined Neilson's United staff last January.
Forrest’s playing career saw him turn out for Raith Rovers, East Fife and Berwick Rangers before moving into coaching with the Scottish FA.
Forrest was also part of the New Zealand womens’ coaching staff for the 2012 Olympics in London before moving to Canada to perform various coaching roles with Vancouver Whitecaps.
He returned to Scotland to work with Neilson on Tayside in 2018.
