Lee Johnson still finds time for a dig at Leeds United after his Bristol City side slump to defeat

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson still found time for a dig at Leeds United's squad, despite seeing his side outclassed in their opening game of the season.

Goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison ensured that Marcelo Bielsa's side got off to a winning start in their new Championship campaign, running out 3-1 victors at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Bristol, who have been earmarked as potential play-off contenders themselves, looked relatively fragile and although they rallied late on, were unable to sufficiently threaten Leeds with any consistency.

Speaking to the media after his side's defeat, Johnson stated that he felt United's squad was stretched thinner compared to Bielsa's first campaign on charge, though he fully acknowledged that his team were the lesser side.

"Obviously Leeds may not have the depth that they had last year but that eleven, there's some very good players in there, and they showed us up at times," he stated.

"[It was a] tough game to go into today but I would have hoped that we would have showed a little bit more than we did in certain spells in the game.

"Sometimes I think you've got to hold your hands up and say they were better than us. They were better than us in their brain, in their movement, in the way they tidied up.

"I thought we were honest, I thought we were very honest in terms of the group of lads that we had. They kept going, they kept going right to the end. But there was a gulf in quality on the day and that's just me being honest."
