Lee Johnson says 'angry' Famara Diedhiou was fired up for Bristol City's win over Reading

The unbeaten run moves up to 10 games while the Robins are back in the top six and just two points off the top of the table.

Reading pushed hard but ultimately could not find a way past the excellent Daniel Bentley, Taylor Moore and Ashley Williams as Bristol City won 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, making it back to back clean sheets in BS3 and a third shut-out this season at Ashton Gate.

At the other end Niclas Eliasson and Famara Diedhiou combined for City's score and and push Jose Gomes' team into the bottom three of the Championship.

And after the game, head coach Lee Johnson saluted his spearhead forward.

"He was playing angry today," said Johnson.

"And I like him when he's in that mode. He was getting hold of the ball and he was strong and aggressive, causing problems for their centre-halves which allows Andi Weimann to buzz off him and be bright in and around it and almost be your trump card.

"Eliasson was cutting off the right and delivering with his left foot with Famara getting across his man and scoring that diving header.

"Great goal and something we worked on in training and then executed today and that was the reason for playing the wingers," he explained.

Was he angry? Did he have reason to be after being left out of the starting line-ups for the last two games?

The match-winning goal-scorer was rejuvenated by finding the net again.

"We believe in him. He wants goals. When he scores you see the confidence lift, and the body language lift. He moves better and he gets hold of the ball better.

"The more we can deliver to him... and actually it's a bit of a criticism of me and this side: I'm not sure get enough early enough into Famara's strengths," said Johnson afterwards, saying the amount of goals City score from crosses is fantastic.

We checked about Famara Diedhiou's call-up for Senegal which has been widely reported but not yet been confirmed officially.

The 26-year-old is indeed heading to take on Brazil - with Neymar, Dani Alves and others.

"Yeah, yeah, I think he has. I think they put out an original list. And from what I believe he's been called in," he said.

"He'll enjoy that one and he's got a game against Brazil. In Singapore - it's not ideal. But we've got eight or nine players called up and we won't have too many called up this week or next week," said Johnson who said that it was frustrating that Nathan Baker had been ill before the game.

Bristol City head to Luton Town next, who had former City striker Mick Harford watching on at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
