Lee Johnson reveals whether Bristol City are still interested in Arsenal striker on loan at Leeds United

Lee Johnson will maintain a watching brief over Eddie Nketiah's situation at Leeds United with the Bristol City head coach also keen to emphasise the young striking talent he has at his disposal at BS3.

City lost out to Leeds in the summer loan recruitment of Nketiah but since moving to Yorkshire, the 20-year-old hasn't started a Championship fixture, although he did play 45 minutes against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Nketiah's lack of game time under Marcelo Bielsa has increased the possibility of Arsenal recalling him in January, although as Bristol Live has previously reported there has been no direct show of concern from the Gunners.

If that were to happen, City could come back into the equation, given their need for a forward but while Johnson admitted there could be interest in the future he also name checked Antoine Semenyo and Saikou Janneh as options for the club.

Semenyo has been a part of the first-team all season, playing 225 minutes - 18 more than Nketiah, while fellow teenage forward Janneh is close to a return after undergoing knee surgery.

"I was asked about the situation and how it came about because there was a lot of press on it - mainly from the Leeds end, to be honest," , when asked to provide clarity on whether he retains an interest in Nketiah.

Johnson had previously said on BBC 5Live in September, "that would have been the only question mark on Leeds and a club like that, is he going to get the pure game time that he would expect?"

"I was asked, and it was a broad view, and it wasn't about Eddie in particular, on any young player going out on loan," he added on Monday.

"For me, it's about concentrating on the players that we've got and we've got a lot of bright, young talent coming through: Semenyo and Saikou Janneh.

"At the moment he's an Arsenal player who's currently on loan to Leeds and I presume that'll be the way it stays.

"If that situation changes, then of course we'll look at it with a viewpoint in the market as it stands, but also depending how our young boys are developing and whether we can promote anybody from within."
