Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has paid his Leeds United counterpart Marcelo Bielsa the ultimate compliment in a discussion about the quality of coaching in the Championship.
Johnson has gone up against Bielsa four times over the past seasons and is yet to win a single point against the Argentine, with Leeds putting down a statement 3-1 win at Ashton Gate on the first weekend of the current campaign, back in August.
The 38-year-old is the division's longest-serving boss and believes that Bielsa's presence in the second tier is a testament to some of the quality, innovative coaching that the Championship has seen in recent years.
"There hasn't half been some good quality that's come and gone," he told Anthony Hudson's Masterminds podcast.
"You've only got to look at the likes of Jaap Stam and some of the patterns of play. You could really see the Dutch feel that he brought to that Reading side that was successful in getting to the play-off final.
"Then you've got the likes of Sheffield United and the way that they work their 3-5-2 with overlapping centre-halves.
“It’s almost an education, every game that you’re going into," he continues before turning his focus to the Whites chief.
“It coincides in probably the top man in the world in terms of Bielsa.
“It’s very interesting to not only watch his teams and study but it’s another thing to feel it as a coach against such a top coach.”
City currently lie seventh in the Championship table, a point off the playoff places as everyone awaits a decision on how the season will be concluded.
