Lee Johnson mulls over history lesson for Bristol City's squad after four defeats in a row

Lee Johnson says Bristol City's players might need a history lesson after four defeats in a row.

The Robins have dropped out of the play-off places with a poor run of form that continued with a loss away to Charlton Athletic on Boxing Day.

City now have three straight games at home, starting with hosting Luton Town tomorrow.

Johnson said he wants to get the fans back on side after the poor form, and revealed he spoke about the club's history during his team talk at the Valley.

He said: "We like playing at home, we want to make sure we entertain the fans but of course everybody will take a win before they take getting entertained.

"We've got to get that balance, but we certainly need them because they're very important to us.

"We're very powerful as a club when everybody is aligned, and they deserve it because they're a fantastic set of supporters.

"I even spoke on Thursday about the history of the club to the players and said maybe they need a history lesson because they need to know the history of the shirt they're playing for and the badge they're playing for, because it's not acceptable to be in a position like we were and send the supporters home probably confused.

"There was a lot they would have enjoyed in that second half, coming into them, and they'll be as frustrated as I am in that second half conceding two goals and scoring two."

Whilst Johnson wants to see the Robins play well, such is their run of form that he concedes most would take a scrappy 1-0 win over struggling Luton.

"I think we all would," he said.

"You've got to puff your chest out, you've got to turn up, take a breath and go again.

"We know how relentless this division is, I'm certainly not feeling sorry for myself.

"We'll crack on, stay consistent and try and inject the players with as much confidence as possible.

"I think you saw in the second half on Thursday we did play with some confidence and we had that belief, but unfortunately individual errors and unique have cost us."
