Lee Johnson gives Bristol City injury updates on Tomas Kalas, Adam Nagy and Bailey Wright

It's all set up for an exciting West Country Championship clash at the weekend as Swansea City visit Bristol City, with second taking on fourth in the early league table.

Even at this stage this is a chance for one of the sides to lay a marker against another team expected to be in the reckoning for the top six.

Ahead of then, the Robins have held their pre-match press conference where head coach Lee Johnson gave updates on the fitness of several of his key players.

While Benik Afobe is in contention to return at the weekend after missing out against Stoke City last Saturday, the news is good on Bailey Wright who is back in training. On Tomas Kalas, though, less so.

"Bailey Wright is back in training," said Johnson on Wednesday afternoon.

"Adam (Nagy), we will test Friday. He’s still a bit thick around the ankle but he is on the mend," explained Johnson adding that he was not happy with the Hungarian FA's use of the midfielder in the international break.

Meanwhile the news is not so good on City's club record signing Tomas Kalas. Could the former Chelsea defender make it for this weekend?

"No, he’s going to be a bit longer. We don’t want to rush that one," said Johnson.

"He’s going to get re-scanned to see if the tear has decreased, as it should have done."

It could be that that club captain Wright needs a couple of U23s games before returning to the first-team squad.

Meanwhile Johnson explained that he has several selection dilemmas for this weekend.

"We’ve got a lot of decisions. Callum signed his new contract, that changes the mindset a bit. The likes of Sammie Szmodics and Pereira have been excellent in training," he added.

"The competition is strong. In training, people have been performing very, very well. The lads that are playing know they can’t rest on their laurels."

Bristol City play Swansea City at 3pm on Saturday.
