Lee Johnson asked to do research for 'multiple consortiums' interested in Sunderland takeover

New Sunderland head coach Lee Johnson has revealed he was asked to prepare research on the Black Cats playing squad for a number of consortiums.

Johnson met with Stewart Donald, Kristjaan Speakman and Jim Rodwell before taking over at the Stadium of Light.

The former Bristol City boss said he was looking forward to meeting other members of the "advisory group" last week.

Speaking to the media today, Johnson said: "Obviously I hear, as everybody does - the bits and pieces. I was actually asked to do a bit of research on the playing squad for a couple of consortiums that are looking at buying Sunderland.

"I think, if you were a billionaire, millionaire or group looking at a club to go and buy - it makes sense.

" Sunderland is effectively underachieving currently.

"There's a lot of potential in the football club as a whole and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a number of people who were coming in for the football club.

"It's not for me to talk about in terms of the political side. All I have to do is make sure I do my absolute best for the team."
