Lee Johnson aims to honour Ron Gordon legacy as Hibs boss states 'we're hurting but determined'

Lee Johnson has backed his Hibs players to perform on the big stage at the weekend - with the Easter Road boss 'determined' to do Ron Gordon proud.

Gordon, who served as Hibs' owner for four years after taking over in 2019, tragically passed away at the age of 68 last week after a long yet brave battle with cancer. Tributes have been held up and down the country for the American, but with Hibs yet to play since his passing, they travel to Livingston tomorrow.

Johnson believes that there will be a big energy created from Hibs fans at the Tony Macaroni Arena, as they look to harness the positivity that Gordon spread around the club in his four-year-spell. And the Englishman has challenged his players to 'give their all' in key moments as a way of showing the Hibs legend just what he meant to the club.

Johnson said: "It's a devastating illness. We've all got experiences in our families with cancer and it just takes good people too soon. This is certainly one of those situations. We're hurting but we're also determined.

"The players are a bit different in that they have to play the moment. They'll feel that energy from the fanbase because I know the fans' support to the family.

"I spoke to Ian Gordon on Thursday, we had a lengthy chat, and I know how much they appreciate everything that's going on this side and they'll get an opportunity to show that appreciation back over the next week to ten days when they're back in the country.

"The players' role is to be the best they can possibly be every day and that, really, will be how they honour Ron. It's giving your all and being able to deliver in those key moments. If we can do that enough then the success will come to us."
