Lee Grace move to Hull City in doubt as Rovers defender deemed surplus to requirements

Lee Grace is now unlikely to move from Shamrock Rovers to Hull City.

FAI Cup winner Grace, 26, spent three days with the Tigers last week but now Hull boss Grant McCann admits that he is already well-stocked with centre-halves.

There are already half a dozen central defenders at the KCOM Stadium and McCann is in no hurry to add the Carrick on Suir man to the books.

Sean McLoughlin, who joined the Championship club from Cork City in the summer, is one of them but the 22-year-old is currently on loan to St Mirren in the SPL.

There was also interest from League One and League Two clubs in Grace, who is currently on a family holiday, but the former Galway defender is now expected to return to Rovers.

Grace could pen a new deal to remain with Stephen Bradley's squad, who finished runners-up to Dundalk last season before claiming Cup glory over the Lilywhites at the start of this month.

McCann, who has also been linked with a move for Hoops midfielder Jack Byrne, said: “Lee’s someone we were well aware of.

"Myself and Cliff (Byrne) know that league (the SSE Airtricity League), especially Cliff. We got him over and we had him in for three or four days. He did well.

"He’s gone away on holiday with his family now because his season has just finished. Whether we do something or not, we’re not sure."

Speaking to Hull Live, McCann added: “We’re pleased with the four centre-backs we’ve got. In fact, we’re pleased with the six centre-backs we’ve got, including the two out on loan as well. In that area we’re well stocked.

“There’s no real time limit on (making a decision). He can’t play until January even if we did sign him.

"We’re really pleased with what we’ve got at centre-back".
