Newcastle United legend Lee Clark has accepted an exciting new role with ambitious non-league side Newcastle Blue Star.
The Geordie icon will team up with another Gallowgate End favourite Kenny Wharton as director of football and oversee the club's football operations.
Wharton will continue his role as first team manager with Clark taking on a broader role across the club.
Blue Star are aiming to climb the football pyramid and invest in the local grassroots scene with their merchandise already proving a major hit online.
Indeed, their home kit is a throwback to the same shirt Clark donned back in the Entertainers era and has already won admirers through their club shop.
Blue Star chief Steve Best said: "We've had ongoing conversations with Lee and he has agreed to oversee the club with the emphasis to get our junior footballers on the right path to secure the future of the club
"He is ready to start now.
"We'd like to be a team that fans want to follow.
"A bit like South Shields but on the west side of the city we are looking to climb the leagues.
"We're not quite modelling ourselves on Shields but we want people to be passionate about what they see.
"I am a big Newcastle United fan but felt the tide at the club started to turn when Sir Bobby Robson left.
"Like a lot of fans Newcastle aren't the club I first fell in love with so we are trying to create something here.
"We'd like to challenge for the FA Vase and play in the FA Cup."
