Lee Chin details how he thanked his mother for her part in hurling success

The short hop to the local for a celebratory AllStars pint gave Lee Chin the chance to thank his mother for playing her part in his hurling journey.

Chin's family were not steeped in the game but are engrossed in it now as they follow his every move with Wexford.

Along with Diarmuid O'Keefe, who has hurled with for the county since under-14 level, Chin picked up his AllStar at the start of the month.

They are the first Wexford players since Damien Fitzhenry in 2004 to claim the award.

“A couple of the club lads contacted me, just to meet me in the local for a pint, just to say congratulations really," recalled Chin.

“The car journey is only two minutes down the road. It wasn’t much of a conversation, but it was a nice moment to have, one on one with my mother.

“And you know, it’s nice to see her emotional about something nice.

"She just kept saying, 'I'm so proud of you' and I just wanted her to recognise how proud she should be of herself because there's all those things that they do.

"It means so much for them and I was so happy for them because it's just not possible without the parents and the club, and it's what I tried to get her to understand because she wasn't seeing that side of it.

"This year I had performances that led to me getting an AllStar.

"But it was what she was doing in the background for me to achieve that stuff that wouldn't have been possible without her, and sometimes they don't see that stuff.

"I think that's why we had that moment".

Chin was at Aer Lingus Hangar 6 at Dublin Airport where Aer Lingus, in partnership with the GAA & GPA, unveiled a one-of-a-kind customised playing kit for the New York Hurling Classic which takes place at Citi Field in New York on November 16th.
