Lee Buchanan to Celtic transfer addressed as Wayne Rooney delivers firm Derby exit response

Wayne Rooney has shut down talk that Derby will allow defender Lee Buchanan to join Celtic in January.

Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou will look to add to his threadbare squad in the winter window - with left-back proving to be a problem position this term.

Record Sport first revealed in the summer the 20-year-old had caught the Celtic scouts attention after an impressive Championship campaign.

Reports south of the border now suggest there will be fresh efforts to bring the left-back to the Scottish Premiership before the end of the campaign.

The left-back, who can also play at centre-back, has six months left on his deal but Derby chiefs do have the option of a 12-month extension.

However, Pride Park boss Rooney insists none of his players will be allowed to leave halfway through the campaign.

When asked about a potential switch to Celtic for Buchanan and a move for with Nathan Byrne, he told the Derby Telegraph : "None of my players are going anywhere.

"Obviously, we haven't got enough players as it is.

"The way we are trying to play, they are the two most important players on the pitch, so none of my players will be leaving the club this transfer window unless it is to benefit them, whether it is a loan, but that can only happen if we are allowed to bring players in."
