Lee Bowyer, Tim Sherwood and Gary Rowett - the latest on QPR's hunt to replace Steve McClaren

It's been over 24 hours since Queens Park Rangers announced the sacking of manager Steve McClaren.

The former England boss lasted just 11 months in charge of the west London side as he was dismissed for picking up just one Championship win since Boxing Day.

Attention has now turned to finding a replacement for McClaren as the Hoops look towards the new season and getting someone in place at the earliest opportunity.

There's plenty of speculation surrounding the potential runners and riders for the race to be QPR manager, so he's the latest speculation on who is in contention.

Tim Sherwood is the number one target for Queens Park Rangers, according to The Times .

Next QPR manager odds: Former Spurs and Aston Villa boss favourite to replace Steve McClaren

It's been reported that the Hoops have already held talks with the former Spurs and Aston Villa manager as they look to fill the post at the earliest opportunity.

However, it's said that 50-year-old has concerns over the financial situation at the club, meaning that there's doubt over whether he think QPR will be the right opportunity for him.

Reports in the Evening Standard have suggested that QPR are sounding out an approach for Lee Bowyer.

The Charlton manager has done an excellent job since moving to The Valley, with the Addicks currently on track to finish in the League One play-off places.

Bowyer's contract is set to expire at the end of this season, and while this could provide good value for the Hoops, it's likely that the former Leeds and Newcastle midfielder would want to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future - something which might not fit in with QPR's aim of appointing a manager as soon as possible.

A number of other targets have been mentioned regarding the role.

West London Sport have reported that alongside Sherwood, the Hoops have added Mark Warburton, Michael Appleton and Gary Rowett to the list of potential targets.

However it remains to be seen whether the trio are firm targets for the Hoops.
