Lee Bowyer makes relegation admission ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Lee Bowyer insists Birmingham City are not safe from relegation ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Blues are in buoyant mood after climbing nine points clear of the bottom three with Sunday’s 1-0 win at third-bottom Rotherham United.

Bowyer has rejuvenated the St Andrew’s club since succeeding former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka in March.

But the former midfielder, whose side just one point behind the Reds, is not taking survival for granted just yet.

“No, I can never say that until the table actually says you are safe,” said Bowyer after the win at Rotherham, reported BirminghamLive.

“I found that out last season [Bowyer was in charge when Charlton were relegated to League One] and I don’t want that again.

“I want to get as many points as quickly as we can and be mathematically safe – then you can ask me that question and I’ll say ‘Yes’. But today no, we have got a tough game against Forest.

“Rotherham are going to keep fighting. They got a good result in the week against QPR, they were unlucky against Coventry, today they might think they were unlucky to lose again, it’s tough but you can easily turn it around. Look what we have done.”
