Lee Bowyer in Alfie Doughty appeal as he raves about Celtic transfer target's Premier League showcase

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has saluted Celtic target Alfie Doughty for all-action display in his side's 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham.

The League One side came up short but the left wing-back continued his red-hot start to the season during the clash at the London Stadium.

It comes after the League One side kicked out a second bid from the Premiership champions believed to be around £500,000.

Record Sport understands Celtic are facing a battle to land the 20-year-old this summer with the Addicks hell-bent on retaining a player with only a year remaining on his current deal.

And Bowyer has challenged his rising star to make visits to Premier League sides a regular occurrence in the years to come.

Speaking to London News Online : “You young lads, take this as a learning curve.

“You’ve played against these players and seen what it takes, what they do. This is what we need you to do as young players, to improve.

"Alfie caused them problems. There’s a lot of positives to take from tonight. Ignore the result. It shouldn’t have been 3-0, we deserved to get a goal.”

Bowyer also had kind words for Manchester City loanee Dylan Levitt and Charlie Barker who also caught his eye during the defeat.
