Lee Bowyer admits Lyle Taylor 'hurt' as Rangers-linked striker cops thinly-veiled dig from Charlton boss

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer admits he was left hurt by Lyle Taylor 's decision not to finish the season with the club.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers and Bowyer was critical of his refusal to sign a short term extension until the end of the Championship campaign.

Taylor was one of three players who refused to play along with defender Chris Solly and on-loan midfielder David Davis.

Charlton have moved themselves out of the relegation spots since the return of the Championship following lockdown and Bowyer insists it’s down to players being committed.

Bowyer has previously had run-ins with Rangers after Steven Gerrard snapped up Joe Aribo on a free transfer last season and would be angry again if Taylor does make the move across the border.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, he said: "Once that got announced then I had to move on and focus on the group I had, the group I have I know they’ll always give 100 per cent for the club and that’s the most important thing for me.

"That’s what I needed to know moving forward. That’s the past, and the players who have stepped in are doing really well and fighting for the cause. That’s old news for me.

"I was hurt but it’s one of those situations where if we didn’t have the virus they would have finished the season, no doubt. It’s a difficult situation for all the players, they all had their reasons about why they didn’t want to play.

"Did I understand it? Yes I did to a certain extend. Did it hurt? Of course it did because I believe once you start something you finish it.

"They made their decision and we’ve moved on from that. I’m not really bothered by that anymore, once that was dealt with I moved on very quickly."
