Ledley King reveals the crucial role Ndombele and Hojbjerg were given in Mourinho's Burnley plan

Ledley King has revealed the crucial role both Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were given in Jose Mourinho's plan for Tottenham Hotspur's win against Burnley.

All of the attacking players got the credit after the 4-0 victory with Gareth Bale making the headlines with his two goals and assist and Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura all making an impact in front of goal.

However, midfielders Hojbjerg and Ndombele had their own crucial role to play in the victory against Sean Dyche's men.

Both the Frenchman and the Dane played their part in the transitions, sending Tottenham away on their breathtaking counter-attacks.

That was showcased most effectively by Ndombele's first-time flick to Sergio Reguilon before Son broke up the pitch and passed for Bale to curl home Spurs' fourth goal of the day.

After the game, Mourinho's assistant King admitted that the midfield duo's role was a key one in the pre-match planning.

"It was a big part of what we spoke about before the game, that we needed to pick up a lot of the second balls, especially Pierre and Tanguy," he told Spurs' social media channels.

"They put a lot of pressure on you and it's important that our defenders won the first ball and then we picked up that second ball.

"We were able to spring from there really and put some good patterns of play together and create some chances so really happy with that."

Spurs scored after just 67 seconds when Bale touched home Son's ball into the box and that set Mourinho's men on their way.

"The plan was to get at them quickly, that's always the plan, especially at home, to put teams on their back foot," said King.

"We got the early goal which set us up and we were able to really dominate the game with a really strong performance.

"I felt some of the football we played at times was excellent and we could have probably scored a few more goals. Overall we have to be happy with that performance."
