We’re nearly at the end of the Led Zeppelin reissue programme, with the final three albums – Presence, In Through the Out Door and Coda – emerging in remastered form, in editions of varying degrees of deluxeness, on 31 July. Coda, itself a compilation of unreleased recordings, gets the best of the additional material, with two companion discs of alternate takes and two songs previously unreleased in any form – St Tristan’s Sword and Sugar Mama.
You can hear Sugar Mama here – a track originally recorded in 1968 at Olympic Studios in south west London, during the sessions for the first Zeppelin album. The song had been floating around in bootlegging circles for years, and had previously been ascribed to the 1969 sessions for Led Zeppelin II. Now the group say the song was completed the previous year, but never released.
We’re sorry to say this song can only be heard by UK listeners, but if you are able to hear it, do have a listen and let us know what you think.
