Led Zeppelin had a bash at funk on Houses of the Holy, with The Crunge. That was just a throwaway, but on Physical Graffiti they pulled out a thoroughly convincing effort. Trampled Under Foot took its inspiration from Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, with John Paul Jones laying down an unrelenting clavinet riff. It was one of the great centrepieces of Zeppelin’s sixth album, Physical Graffiti, and a staple of the band’s live sets until they folded in 1980. Now you can hear an unreleased version of the song, Brandy & Coke (Trampled Under Foot – initial rough mix), which will be available for the first time as one of tracks on the companion disc for the remastered reissue of Physical Graffiti, released on 23 February. Sadly, this track is only availale to hear in the UK.
