
Former Chulalongkorn University lecturer and political activist Suthachai Yimprasert passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 61.
Assoc Prof Suthachai died at 8.33am at Chulalongkorn University from a lung infection, losing his fight against cancer, according to a post on the Facebook account of Thanapol Eawsakul, editor of Fah Diew Kan magazine.
Funeral rites will be held at Wat Hua Lamphong from Wednesday until Sunday.
The professor was a lecturer at the Chulalongkorn University faculty of arts. He joined the political movement in October 1976 and later joined the communists under the pseudonym “Sahai Somporn”, and was mainly active in Surat Thani province.
During the government Gen Prem Tinsulanonda he resurfaced and continued his higher education, graduating from Srinakharinwirot University. He completed his doctorate at the University of Bristol in 1998.
He also joined the political movement led by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, or the red-shirt group.
