To reinforce novel coronavirus prevention measures among the foreign community and embassy officials, Minato Ward, Tokyo, hosted a lecture Monday by Narumi Hori, a nurse and infectious diseases specialist who is an adviser for the ward.
As of November, about 18,000 foreign nationals from about 130 countries live in the ward, which is home to 86 embassies -- more than half of all the embassies in Japan. The lecture was attended by embassy officials of 29 countries and others who either came to the venue or watched it online.
Hori visits public facilities in the ward to offer advice as an expert on the prevention of infectious diseases. She has also created videos that show how to disinfect hands and wear masks in different places, such as offices and entertainment establishments for wining and dining.
In her lecture, she pointed out that infections through conversations without masks and infections to children at home are spreading.
"It is very important to protect children's learning opportunities and economic activities while taking appropriate measures against infectious diseases," she said. She also introduced guidelines on precautions to be taken at group meals, which was created by the ward in both easy Japanese and English.
Arber Mehmeti, 30, first secretary of the Republic of Kosovo Embassy, listened to the lecture and said it provided a significant opportunity to collect necessary information.
