Lech Poznan slaughtered ahead of Rangers clash as ex-Polish FA chief blasts 'full of holes' defence

Former Polish FA president Michal Listkiewicz has launched a scathing attack on football in his own country ahead of Lech Poznan's trip to face Rangers.

Rangers welcome Lech to Ibrox for the second game in the Europa League group stages, with Steven Gerrard's side getting off to the perfect start last week with a 2-0 win at Standard Liege.

Poznan were defeated 4-2 at home by Benfica in their opening game, but won plenty of praise from their homeland media for the way they played and attacked the Portuguese cracks.

But that baffled former World Cup referee Listkiewicz, who later went on to become president of the Polish FA.

He pointed out: "Is Polish football so bad that we celebrate defeats now?

"The Lech Poznan defence was full of holes and Benfica didn't have to break sweat to win really, but what really annoyed me was the post-match comments.

"Is losing four goals at home in a European game something to be proud of? Is this how far Polish football has sunk?

"There was a time when the big teams in Europe were afraid to come to Poland.

"It was the same a few years ago when Borussia Dortmund beat Legia Warsaw 8-4, they actually got praised!

"Polish football is a joke if we are seriously satisfied with big defeats like that.

"The problem in Poland now is that the players have everything done for them, own fast cars, wear football boots like Lionel Messi and don't have to fight for anything.

"And we have managers who are equipped with drones at training, but can't get any decent results.

"No-one in Poland seems to have the character for sport anymore."
