LeBron sends encouragement to I Promise school students starting new year

LeBron James is always looking forward to what’s next so it shouldn’t be a surprise that before he went to bed on Sunday night he was already thinking about what the next day would hold for the students, parents and teachers of the ‘I Promise’ school in Akron, Ohio, that LeBron helped open last year.

James went to his twitter page on Sunday night to wish everybody involved in the ‘I Promise’ school an ‘unbelievable’ first day of school on Monday, as they start a new school year.

The school year for the ‘I Promise’ school has a more comprehensive schedule for students, with longer days and longer school years, hence starting before the calendar turns to August. The model has shown great promise after just one year with students experiencing much higher testing gains than the average students at their age.

James donated a lot of his own money to the project but he also helped leverage his celebrity into donations from major companies to help further fund the project, which includes classes and a pantry for parents in addition to their curriculum for students.
