LeBron salutes Barcelona’s Griezmann for chalk-toss celebration

American football isn’t the only football that’s back in full-swing and while he wasn’t always a huge fan, LeBron James has been warming up to the beautiful game over the last few years. Of course, he is a part owner in Liverpool Football Club but he’s also recently started supporting L.A. FC upon his arrival in Los Angeles and has a budding friendship with French dynamo Kylian Mbappe.

But someone else from France grabbed LeBron’s footy attention over the weekend with a celebration tribute to The King. Newly signed Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann did his own version of LeBron’s iconic chalk toss with confetti in the place of chalk, which LeBron of course loved.

Griezmann scored twice in yesterday’s impressive 5-2 win over Real Betis in Barcelona, helping them bounce back from a disappointing opening week loss. But Griezmann’s chalk toss is likely just the start of a return of the ritual in 2019-20.

LeBron himself teased the return of the chalk toss earlier this summer. James has more or less stopped doing the tradition over the last four-to-five years but with Anthony Davis on the squad and expectations higher than they’ve been in Los Angeles in a long time, it’s a good time to bring it back.
