LeBron responds to NBA season being suspended: ‘What we really need to cancel is 2020!’

The NBA announced late Wednesday that the 2019-20 season would be suspended after a player for the Utah Jazz tested positive for COVID-19, the coronavirus. The player in question is All-Star center, Rudy Gobert, according to USA TODAY. The game that Gobert and the Jazz were scheduled to play at the Oklahoma City Thunder was called off just before it was set to tip.

In response to the news, LeBron James posted on Twitter that what we really need to do is cancel 2020. It’s hard to disagree with him. But for now, it’s just the NBA season that’s suspended as the basketball community waits to see what happens next in this very fluid situation.

“Man we cancelling sporting events, school, office work, etc etc,” James tweeted. “What we really need to cancel is 2020! Damn it’s been a rough 3 months. God bless and stay safe.”

In what could be the last game of the NBA season on Wednesday, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks beat the Denver Nuggets, 113-97. LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers were supposed to take on James Harden and the Houston Rockets next but that contest has been postponed indefinitely.
