LeBron James had the longest summer of his professional life this summer and over that time, he heard it all. Now that the Los Angeles Lakers have a 6-1 record, the best mark in the NBA to go with the league’s top-ranked defense, James is enjoying where he is. And although the lazy narrative would be to suggest he’s getting carried by the addition of superstar of Anthony Davis, he’s once again showing with his play just how special he is.
With his 30 points, 10 rebound and 11 assist triple-double on Tuesday night, James got his third straight triple-double on the season and in the process became the first Los Angeles Laker since Magic Johnson (1987) to notch three straight trip-dubs. Just in case anybody missed it, James was sure to let the people know that he’s not as washed as they want him to be just yet.
James could match a Lakers record since 1980 if he notches a 4th straight, tying Magic Johnson’s best streak of four straight triple-doubles in ’87.
James was the most consistent force throughout the team’s win over the Bulls on Tuesday night. He certainly needed a lot of help from the bench, especially Kyle Kuzma, Dwight Howard and Quinn Cook. But although Anthony Davis had one of his worst games of the season going 6-15 from the field, James was great enough to erase all of it.
While the performance from LeBron was encouraging for the Lakers hopes this year, it was also the type of night that can ease Davis’ mind come July when thinking about teammates to align with for the next portion of his career.
