On March 12, it was announced that the Cleveland Browns had traded for New York Giants superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The internet exploded upon hearing the news and Browns fans from all over Northeast Ohio chimed in with a reaction. This included Akron native LeBron James who offered the following on Instagram.
Odell then commented on LeBron’s post, “Lemme hold down the crib.” Since then, the two have talked about a potential lease agreement and the answer was a hard no from the landlord, King James. Beckham Jr. spoke about the exchange with LeBron during his introductory press conference in Cleveland on Monday according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
“Yeah I asked if I could borrow the house and he said it’s too big,’’ Beckham said at his introductory press conference Monday about LBJ’s Akron mansion. “I was just trying to get my bearings straight and see what’s what and this is his home. He gave me a little bit of advice here and there.’’
James went on to tell Beckham that he’d love it in Cleveland, a place LeBron spent the majority of his professional career and also delivered a championship in 2016.
“He just said you’re going to love it,’’ Beckham said. “He was like, ‘yeah, you’re going to love it.’ That’s the key word. That’s like my idol, that’s the person I look up to the most. That’s my guy. To see what he did to bring a championship here, I just want to be able to do that same thing.’’
If Beckham can do the same thing as James, and bring a championship to Cleveland, he will certainly be loved in that town for a long time–regardless of where he actually ends up living.
