LeBron James won’t do USA Basketball this summer due to ‘Space Jam 2’; open to 2020 Olympics

After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2005 and missing the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010, LeBron James will be facing more questions than ever heading into the offseason about his future with the Lakers.

But one thing that is unquestioned is James’ 2019 commitment to training and to filming ‘Space Jam 2,’ according to The Athletic’s Joe Vardon. So much so that James will not participate in USA Basketball mini-camps this summer as the team prepares for next summer’s Olympics in Tokyo.

From Vardon

“I love everything about Pop, obviously, but this is not a good summer for me,” James said.

“Yeah, that’s a possibility,” LeBron said of Tokyo 2020. “It depends on how I feel. I love the Olympics.”

The coming six months will be the first time in over 14 years that James has had six consecutive months without basketball commitments and he has a major movie commitment with the upcoming filming of ‘Space Jam 2.’

James has played for USA Basketball since the 2004 Olympics and did not play for Team USA after bringing home the 2016 NBA Championship for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
