LeBron James takes next step as Liverpool begin to see power of Nike

LeBron James' love affair with Liverpool continued as the basketball superstar was snapped wearing the new Nike home shirt.

James has long admired Liverpool and never shied away from his affection for the Premier League champions.

And the Nike athlete had hinted at a potential team up with the Reds once their new deal with the Oregon-based giants was confirmed.

Indeed, James was one of the key figures Liverpool had hoped would help market their name to new audiences through the power of Nike.

And James, who won three NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, three NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Awards, and two Olympic gold medals, even bought a minority two per cent stake in Liverpool in back in 2011.

The 35-year-old was tonight pictured wearing the new home kit, which was released by Liverpool and Nike on Saturday, August 1.

Liverpool signed a multi-year partnership with Nike in January 2020 and officially ended their association with New Balance in July.

The Reds had battled New Balance in the High Court in order to get the deal through, such was their confidence that Nike could help them reach new heights off the pitch.

Liverpool managing director and chief commercial officer Billy Hogan, who it was announced last week would be taking over from Peter Moore as the Reds CEO, also spoke about the partnership.

“We said back in January, when we first announced the new partnership with Nike, about our expectations on them becoming an incredible partner for the club,” Hogan said.

"We’re so excited to be starting this journey with Nike, the global leader in sports apparel and we look forward to working together to bring performance and lifestyle product to our supporters in the year ahead.”
