LeBron James, like many across the NBA and in the country, is still coming to terms with what happened on Wednesday when an angry mob of Donald Trump’s supporters breached the United States Capitol building with nary a law enforcement response until hours after rioters had entered the Capitol. The lack of response from law enforcement, after yet another year in which we have seen law enforcement kill unarmed Black citizens on video, was a stark contrast to what many have seen. Only 48 hours ago, LeBron James addressed the lack of charges filed against the officers who shot and killed Jacob Blake in the back in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
With his pregame wardrobe and his Instagram post, LeBron shared his anger again about the double-standard Black people face in the United States after multiple people died in yesterday’s attack on the capitol. LeBron cited the moment as an example of two Americas, but used the spelling “Amerikkkas,” of course a reference to the country’s racist history.
LeBron James and the Lakers are expected to take the court on Thursday night against the San Antonio Spurs. Yesterday, the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat issued a joint statement prior to their game regarding yesterday’s riot at the Capitol.
