LeBron James says that there was a point he thought Lakers had Kawhi

With the NBA’s season opener in Los Angeles only about eight hours away, the morning shootaround was the perfect time to reflect on what might have been between Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Lakers.

It’s been reported in more than one place that the possibility of the Lakers getting Leonard pushed the L.A. Clippers to push in all of their chips to trade for Paul George in order to secure Leonard’s commitment. But not much has been mentioned about the Lakers recruitment, other than some kind of relationship between Kawhi’s Uncle Dennis Robertson and former Lakers boss Magic Johnson.

That all changed at Tuesday morning as both Anthony Davis and LeBron James answered questions about their recruitment of Leonard. James took a more serious approach than Davis, saying that he really believed the Lakers had Leonard at one point during the summer.

In contrast to LeBron’s comments, Anthony Davis had some pretty funny comments about Leonard’s “not talking much” and fearing that he had “overstepped his boundaries” in trying to recruit him after Leonard’s uncle released a statement saying he didn’t enjoy being recruiting.

Certainly, the Lakers stars tried their best to bring Leonard in before bringing in the majority of the current squad they have now, including Leonard’s Toronto running-mate Danny Green. But luckily for those of us who love the game, the time for talking about what could be or what could have been will soon give way to the real action of the NBA.
