LeBron James salutes Tiger Woods on Masters victory

The last time Tiger Woods earned a victory in one of golf’s four major championships, LeBron James was still four years away from winning his first title with the Miami Heat. But after an 11-year drought, Woods secured his fifth green jacket and 15th major championship overall on Sunday in Augusta, Georgia. It was a magical moment highlighted by the come-from-behind win for Woods who overcame personal and professional adversity to reclaim the top spot in the golf wold.

Following the historic victory, LeBron offered congratulations to his fellow Nike athlete on Twitter.

James and Woods are two of the most recognizable Nike athletes of all-time. Tiger signed his first Nike contract in 1996 before his pro debut at the Greater Milwaukee Open later that year. He went on to win his first major championship in 1997, at the Masters. LeBron joined the Nike family in 2003, prior to making his NBA debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He went on to win his first championship in 2012, with Miami. The two iconic athletes also celebrate December 30th as their respective birthdays.

In response to the win for Tiger, Nike released the following video on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry were also among the other NBA dignitaries who joined in the outpouring of celebrities saluting Tiger’s performance.
