LeBron James reportedly violated the NBA’s health and safety protocols and still played against the Warriors

Normally, a violation of the NBA’s health and safety protocols will have you sitting for at least a few games. That’s how it’s been for most of the season, at least.

But, apparently, that isn’t the case for LeBron James who violated the NBA’s health and safety protocols earlier this week ahead of the Lakers’ play-in game against the Warriors, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

James attended an event for Lobos 1707 — a tequila brand — with other stars in attendance including Drake, Michael B. Jordan and Damson Idris.

They held the photoshoot on Monday. The Lakers were set to play the Warriors on Wednesday. Drake posted pictures on Instagram.

Attendees of the event had to provide proof of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine or a negative test to attend, per McMenamin, but this was still a violation. And it typically comes with a quarantine along with a warning, fine or suspension.

It’s unclear what course of action was taken with James. He was still allowed to play against the Warriors on Wednesday after the event and he won’t be suspended for attending, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Let’s be honest about this. Is this preferential treatment for James? Probably. He shouldn’t be suspended for a first offense, but everyone else who violated protocol missed some time quarantining.

If everyone was vaccinated or tested negative, it’s probably fine. Still, it isn’t the best look for the NBA. This almost certainly isn’t the last we’ll hear about this.
