LeBron James on sitting out vs. Bucks: ‘Not taking no steps backwards’

LeBron James isn’t taking any chances on risking further damage to the left groin that caused him to miss 17 consecutive games between December and January of this season.

While James has made his return to the floor and still made the Lakers considerably better when he’s been available, the Lakers and James still clearly have some level of concern regarding his groin. And it’s that, James told reporters on Friday morning, which kept him out of Tuesday night’s road-trip finale in Milwaukee.

From Kyle Goon of the Southern California News Group

If the Lakers lose tonight to Brooklyn, they’ll be officially eliminated from the postseason with only nine games left. So James is right that at this point in the season, there’s no incentive for him to put himself at the additional risk of hurting himself in his 16th season.

While this season did not go as planned, rest assured James is hoping to give things another try next year. They’ll need him as close to full strength as they can possibly get to have any hope of breaking their soon-to-be six-year playoff drought.
