The Los Angeles Lakers play a game later this evening, only their third game so far since the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others in a helicopter crash last week. While the Lakers have already honored Kobe at their first home game since the tragedy and expect to see memorials for Kobe at every road game, the process isn’t becoming any easier with repetition.
According to our own Mark Medina of USA TODAY, James thinks the emotional toll of the mourning of Bryant will be an ongoing thing. The only thing that James says he and the Lakers can affect is how they go through it: together.
“There was some weird stuff going on,” James said. “That’s just pretty cool. It’s a daily reminder.”
And with those reminders, the Lakers might feel joy and pain.
“There is no way one individual can do it on their own,” James said. “You have to lean on somebody in order to gain strength. That’s the only reason we’ve been able to get through it together.”
For many around the world and especially for the Lakers, the last 10 days have been difficult and completely uncharted territory. But the Lakers are doing what they’ve done a fantastic job of all season long and that’s staying together.
