LeBron James giving No. 23 to AD, will Bron wear No. 6 again?

The invisible hand of Klutch Sports works in mysterious ways.

Just moments after it was reported that Anthony Davis would waive his trade kicker worth approximately $4 million, another report of a benefit for Davis surfaced.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, LeBron James will give Anthony Davis the Lakers No. 23 jersey for next season. While these things are generally negotiated between players for some kind of cost, LeBron James is also looking out for Davis in other ways.

Davis is set to be one of many NBA stars to star in the upcoming version of ‘Space Jam 2,’ which many are seeing as an opportunity for Davis to recoup what he’s losing by giving up his trade kicker outside of the NBA salary cap structure.

But in fairness to Klutch Sports and ‘Space Jam 2,’ players waiving their trade kicker to go to a desired market is a common practice in today’s NBA. Back in 2017, both Kyrie Irving and Allen Crabbe waived trade kickers owed to them in order to facilitate trades that got them to more desired destinations.

As far as LeBron’s jersey number, the only other number he has worn during his professional career is No. 6 during his time with the Miami Heat and USA Basketball. James has also worn No. 6 as his practice jersey number for several seasons, dating back to his second stint in Cleveland.

Among the many jerseys retired by the Lakers, No. 6 is not one of them. Last season, LeBron’s No. 23 Lakers jersey was the best-selling uniform in the NBA.
