LeBron James: Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee ‘have been very good, if not great’ in camp

The Los Angeles Lakers have been practicing for a few days and in an interesting move, LeBron James was told to rest by the team, giving him a chance to observe practice from another vantage point. And while at first he tried to say that there was nothing that surprising to him in terms of what he’s seen, he did commend the two true centers on the roster for their solid play.

I thought Dwight and JaVale, they’ve been very good, if not great since practice has started,” LeBron told reporters on Monday. “I love what they’re able to do. They’re two guys that stood out and Avery has stood out with his defensive tenacity. Everybody was doing something in the summer time. You can tell.”

McGee, who started at center for the Lakers for 62 games last season, appears to be entrenched as the starter. However, Howard’s physicality and career history as a much better rebounder could make for an interesting positional battle in training camp. Apparently they are making it tough, with both players showing out in the first days of camp.
